Little Lunch Helpers From Olivia

Pinwheels

Have fun making lunch or snacks with these yummy ideas from Olivia. How about pinwheels for lunch? I see these pre-made in the grocery stores all the time, but I thought they would fall apart and be difficult to make. We used flour tortillas and surprisingly, they were pretty easy to work with. We used what we already had in the refrigerator. First we spread some mayonnaise on the tortilla. Next we put washed, ready to eat salad greens on the right side. We covered that with American cheese, to keep the greens from moving around. Next, we added turkey, ham, gherkin pickles and pepperoni. We start rolling from the salad greens end and had to roll tight. I put toothpicks in while I sliced to keep from them from falling apart. Olivia and I were so proud of ourselves that they not only didn’t fall apart, but they were delicious!

Banana Dogs

Are you ready for this Elvis?

  1. Open a hot dog bun.
  2. Spread peanut butter on the bottom.
  3. Put a banana on top of the peanut butter.
  4. Drizzle red jelly or jam for ketchup

Pickle Snails

You can use one of your pinwheels for these. Just slice a gherkin pickle diagonally for the snail’s head and put the pinwheel on top. Use some kind of stem or chive or even frilly toothpicks for the antennas.

Salad or Lunch On A Stick

There’s something about a frilly toothpick that makes kids more willing to eat sometimes. Here, we used whatever we happened to already have: cucumber, grape tomato, mozzarella pearl, ham and gherkin pickle – and of course a frilly toothpick.

After a healthy lunch and dinner, Olivia enjoys the occasional S’More. You already know the recipe for that!
Thanks for all the great ideas Olivia!
