Children under the age of one should always sit in rear facing car seats. One to three year old children should remain in a rear facing car seat until she or he reaches the top height and weight limit allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer.

Children ages 4 – 7 should use a forward-facing car seat with a harness and tether until he or she reaches the top height or weight limit allowed by your car seat’s manufacturer.

Keep your child in a booster seat until he or she is 8 years of age or 4’9″ tall and can properly wear a seat belt. The seat belt must fit snugly across the upper thighs, not the waist. The shoulder belt must fit snugly across the shoulder and chest, not the neck or face.
