Well, we all heard that it was going to happen and it did. The items at the Dollar Tree are now $1.25. Still a great place to go for cheap stuff for the little ones. I went there today and bought a few things for Easter. I got two sets of window clings, a door hanger, a wooden pineapple to paint (I wanted something more for Easter, but I can use the pineapple all summer I guess), two small bottles of paint, paint brushes, food coloring (the Dollar Store is the only place I can find the old fashion liquid food color – and that’s when they have it), peppercorns, and pink eating utensils. So let the fun begin!
Project #1: Paint the pineapple and use it for silverware. A beautiful handmade table decoration!
Project #2: Olivia, now 7, made this with her own little hands – LITERALLY – when she was just 17 months old. Two fingers for each ear and a thumb for the bunny’s tail. Canvas board and paint are available at the Dollar Tree. You’ll have to provide your own fingers!
Project #3: In my defense, this is the first time I made these, and I can guarantee you they would have come out better if a child had done them. So – have a child do them! Start with hard boiled eggs. To find out how to boil them just right, click here: https://www.spendwithpennies.com/perfect-hard-boiled-eggs
After the eggs cool, cut about 1/3 off the top and dig out the yolk to make deviled eggs. In this case, I was in a big hurry and just added mayonnaise and too much honey mustard and it was a little too loose. You may also have to slice a little off the bottom of the egg to make it stand. Put the “devil” mix back into the white and add a face. I used black olives for the eyes, carrots for the mouth, and parsley for the hair. Put the slice you cut off the top for a hat! Seriously – your three year old will do a much better job than I did! (side note – as messy as these came out, my husband was very impressed, and now they’re all gone LOL).
Project #4: Serving Easter dinner at home? Add a little class by typing up a menu to brag about how much work you’ve done preparing all those delicious dishes (use a lot of adjectives). Having an Easter Egg Hunt? Last year the Easter Bunny left this “hunter’s helper” to let us know where he had hidden the eggs. He also took an Easter ink stamp (from the Dollar Tree) and stamped each location the amount of eggs that were in that location. They all got found!
